Melissa Urban Joins Pave as Advisor on Nutrition and Lifestyle Health
We don’t add advisors for optics. We add them when there’s a specific gap we can’t fill ourselves and someone exists who’s already solved the problem we’re trying to help founders navigate.
Melissa Urban is joining Pave Health Ventures as an advisor on nutrition and lifestyle health.
If you know Whole30, you know why this matters. Melissa built one of the most trusted wellness brands of the last decade without venture backing, without paid acquisition at scale, without compromising on integrity as the brand grew. She did it through clarity of message, community trust, and an uncompromising filter on what belonged in the brand and what didn’t.
That’s rare. Most consumer health brands either stay small and pure or scale and dilute. Melissa proved you can do both if you’re disciplined about it.
Why this matters for Pave
We back founders at the intersection of consumer wellness and healthcare. Many of them are building brands, not just products. They’re asking people to change behavior, trust them with deeply personal decisions, and stick around long enough for the intervention to work.
That requires a different playbook than growth-at-all-costs SaaS or hardware. It requires understanding how trust is built, how communities form, and where shortcuts break things permanently.
Melissa has that playbook. She’s lived the tradeoffs. She knows when to say no, when integrity is non-negotiable, and how to build something durable in a category full of noise.
She’ll work directly with select portfolio companies on brand integrity, community building, and storytelling as they scale. And she’ll help us pressure-test investments where consumer trust is load-bearing.
What this says about our strategy
We’re not trying to back every health company. We’re trying to back the ones that will still matter in ten years. The ones that earn trust instead of renting attention. The ones where the founder’s incentives and the customer’s outcomes are actually aligned.
Melissa’s involvement reinforces that filter. If a founder’s approach to growth would make her uncomfortable, that’s signal. If their brand integrity would hold up under her scrutiny, that’s signal too.
This isn’t about celebrity. It’s about having the right people in the room when it matters.
Looking forward to what we build from here.
